Name: MATCH Antibody Study
Principal Investigator: Professor James Chalmers
Leading institution or organisation: University of Dundee
HDR Innovation Gateway Metadata Rating: Platinum
MATCH was set up to help report on the prevalence of COVID-19 infections in healthcare workers. This is important as people in these roles are at great risk of being exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, making them an ideal population for studying the body’s immune response to infection. The project has now collected blood samples from 2000 NHS Tayside and social care workers, which have been tested for presence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. These tests will identify healthcare workers who previously had asymptomatic COVID-19.
MATCH’s aims are to:
- Identify asymptomatic healthcare workers
- Understand the burden of undetected infections
- Identify if patients with detectable antibodies can be re-infected
