CO-CONNECT team members recognised in
Queen's Birthday Honours list

We are delighted to announce that three members of the CO-CONNECT team were recognised in Her Majesty’s Birthday Honours list.
Team members Aziz Sheikh, Joanne Martin and Susan Hopkins have been given the most prestigious of recognitions for their outstanding contributions to science and society. On behalf of the CO-CONNECT Team, we congratulate them on their success and thank them for their exceptional work within and beyond the project.
Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh OBE
One of CO-CONNECT’s Principal Investigators, Aziz Sheikh, has been awarded a knighthood for his services towards COVID-19 research and policy. Throughout the pandemic, Professor Sir Aziz had led many research collaborations across Scotland, the UK and internationally.
His contributions to COVID-19 research include, but are not limited to:
ActingActing as Principal Investigator on the Early Pandemic Evaluation and Enhanced Surveillance of COVID-19 (EAVE II) study;
Acting as Principal Investigator on the Data and Connectivity: COVID-19 Vaccine Pharmacovigilance (DaC-VaP) study; and
Acting as Principal investigator on the Vaccine Breakthrough Project.
This is in addition to maintaining his responsibilities as the Director of the Usher Institute, and as Director of the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research (AUKCAR).

Professor Joanne Martin, CBE
Professor Joanne Martin was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for her exemplary services to the NHS and medical education.
Professor Martin is CO-CONNECT’s Work Package 2 Lead . She is currently the Director of the Blizard Institute and Professor at Pathology at Queen Mary University of London.

Dr Susan Hopkins, Honorary CBE
Dr Susan Hopkins, another one of CO-CONNECT’s Principle Investigators, has been made an Honorary CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to Public Health, having acted as a Healthcare Epidemiologist Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at Public Health England.
In December 2021, Dr. Hopkins also received the Presidential Distinguished Service Award from The Republic of Ireland President, Michael D. Higgins.
